Sneak Peek

Here’s a sample out of the Johnny Tremain Unit Study Materials. I did this with my daughter today even though we haven’t gotten to the book yet.
My Descriptive Words :
Pick a noun (something you could write about).
Write three adjectives that describe that noun.
Write three similes, one using each adjective.
Now write a short paragraph telling about your noun and use all of your similes.
See example below.
red, crispy, tasty
red as blushing cheeks, crispy as burnt toast, tasty as Thanksgiving
I’m saving my apple for an afternoon snack. It’s hard to wait staring at its skin, red as blushing cheeks. Just thinking about it I can hear it as I bite, crispy as burnt toast. How can I wait to eat something as tasty as Thanksgiving? Chomp!

Here’s my daughter’s version:

orange, hard, smelly

orange as an orange

hard as a rock

smelly as a stink bomb

I’m looking at the potty. It’s as orange as an orange and as hard as a rock. I have to hold my nose because it’s as smelly as a stink bomb!

What’s for dinner?

Easiest Meal Ever (and for some reason it’s my kids’ favorite meal): One whole potato per person. Wash skin and plop in a pot of water, whole. One carrot per two people (unless you want more). Peel, break in half and plop in the water. One small onion per person who will eat it 🙂 Peel off skin and plop in the water, whole. Boil until the potatoes are soft (fork test). That’s all. Let everyone butter and salt and pepper to taste. SAVE THE WATER and use as your liquid for soups.
