My book has been reviewed at Laura Williams Musings. Please see what she had to say.
In family news my husband is off to Asia today. We’re moving to a new city from where we were in Asia before so he’s heading out before the rest of us to find us an apartment and get it set up. With 5 kids including a newborn I need a washing machine ready to go when we land 🙂
We are studying Asia now until the end of the month. I’ll update with our studies of Asia when I can.
We’ve been doing minimal school this past month. Today I finally kicked everyone back into full gear. The baby is almost 6 weeks old already! We focused on South America since the baby was born. We took time off over Christmas since we had visiting family.
Note to BLOGGERS: If you would like to post a review of my book, The King Will Make a Way, I can send you a free version of the book in either Kindle format or as a pdf file. Let me know! (It’s a Christian novel, so please only Christian bloggers 🙂
My kids got to play Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego. I bought it because I remembered playing it on the computer as a kid. Unfortunately it’s not the same game. You can only play it once and then it’s done. If you play it again, it’s exactly the same. It’s not as good as the original in terms of learning. But of course it’s a lot snazzier.
My daughter did her own thing, making lots of flags from South American countries, a geography quiz game and a lapbook on South America. My daughter also read On The Pampas by Henty. We played her game on New Year’s Eve. Each player had a grid. If you answered a question correctly, you filled in the appropriate number of squares on your grid. She had color-coded the questions to show how many squares each was worth.
My older son did the Brazil lapbook that I had made. It’s available on the Free Stuff! page.
Like the other country lapbooks, this doesn’t require much writing. There is a circle graph to make,
some coloring and a couple one word answers to write.
My kids played on this geography site to learn the countries and capitals and features of the land. They listened to the national anthem of Argentina. And watched tourism videos for Argentina. They also watched videos for Venezuela and about Simon Bolivar.
We also spent some time learning about the Amazon rain forest. The kids read about it and played in it. There is also an enormous amount of lapbook materials available for the rain forest made by Dynamic2Moms. There is lots of info on their site and lapbook pieces for different ages. My five year old used some of their pieces.
Next we’re off to Asia…
